Default American Idol

Do you enjoy the show for the talent spotting aspect? Or perhaps you are more attracted to the train wreck potential the preliminary rounds serve up?

I do enjoy American Idol if I can catch it on the net. Here in the UK we have our own versions. Britain's Got Talent is one, and my personal favourite is The X Factor. Of course there is the same level of public humiliation in the early stages and no end of oddballs. Here is a clip from a recent show.

I like the show a lot, but my favorite part about it is the beginning, where you get to watch all the people who can't sing but seem to think they can lol.

Alex, did you watch the videos linked in the earlier threads? The first is painful and the second is worse in a different way. I'm not sure that they should be allowed to televise this stuff, even if the people are deluded.

Jazz that clip you posted was beyond words!Jaymee, I tend to think this kind of entertainment is a modern version of watching people try to fight lions in ancient days! On the one hand I think they deserve it as no-one forced them to enter, but on the other I feel guilty for secretly enjoying watching them mess up. Many times the pithy comments and funny faces the judges make are the best parts!

We tried watching American Idol once, and didn't care for it. All it is, is singing. We like America's Got Talent, because it's more of a variety show, with all kinds of talent. Singing, dancing, magic, and unusual acts. To us, it's more entertaining.

Yep, the general talent shows are more fun for me to watch too. Apart from the variety there is less humiliation as most of the people do have something interesting to offer. I can't remember who won America's Got Talent last time. I know a dance group won the British version though.

Wasn't the British show where the singer Susan Boyle was discovered? I remember her because there was some fuss about her being wheeled on and presented in a way that would make her look stupid. I love her voice and have her CD, it's pretty good.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that Susan Boyle was on Britain's Got Talent. I have watched the video of her first appearance several times and I still can't figure out if the judges knew ahead of time that she was going to be good. If so then their derision of her at the start was beyond bad!

Here is the video for Susan Boyle. great woman, great voice and I get the shivers when I watch this. I can't figure out who knew what either but I think the comments from the judges are pretty low class.
