Re: Blu ray

I have made the mistake before of buying cheaper end goods, especially deals. the upshot is that I end up either spending more in the long term or being stuck with something that is not what I really want.

The packages they bundle in with the tvs, are usually an HTIB that cannot handle HD audio at all. They are a very cheap POS, or they wouldn't bundle them in. I guess they are better than nothing, but not much better. An entry level GOOD system is gonna cost you $1500 - $2000 (speakers, receiver, and blu ray player). These won't be bundled in with anything.......

You need a receiver that can decode the HD audio formats, or a blu ray player with the 5.1/7.1 multi-channel analog outputs along with an older receiver that has those same kind of inputs. You also need good speakers to be able to tell a difference between regular DD and DTS, and the HD audio. HTIB speakers won't do it. I have all the equipment needed, and am enjoying blu ray movies to the fullest.
My apologies. I was referring to the extra equipment - which you have detailed perfectly, rather than the HDTV. To not start with that would be madness. It seems to be all or nothing, worth saving for to do it properly.

Re: Blu ray

I buy my movies from WalMart, Amazon.com, and local pawn shops.

Re: Blu ray

Jvc where do you buy your blu ray movies? Do you find there is a decent choice at a reasonable price? I'm envious of all your equipment and trying to figure out the ongoing investment once you buy the things to start watching.

Blu ray

I understand the basic technical points of this but not got one and am wondering if it is worth it. Do you need HD equipment too?
