I use a Sony NWZ-S618f mp4 player and before that I had an another mp3 player from Sonny. They invented portable audio players so you know that you are in good hands.

I think Ipods sound terrible, they have gained much of their popularity rated on the fact that they were the must have gadget, rather than the best performer. Your welcome to try to prove me wrong however.

I like my ipod Nano, there are advantages to having a hard drive storage capscity rather than a flash memory. I think the brand you prefer largely depends on what you bought first and what you have had the chance to compare it to.

Doremi, can you tell me more about the difference in the sound quality? I understand how a product can become 'the thing' regardless, but for those in the market for a new mp3 this would be insightful. Thanks.

I have a cheap ($60) RCA Lyra mp3 player. I seldom use it though. I don't care much for the mp3 format. Too compressed. I prefer to listen to cds. I really prefer vinyl albums, but they're kinda hard to carry around and listen through earbuds.

I have a 4gb Zune player, of course the quality won't be similar to a home system that is set up with a preamp and an amp but hey, unless you want to carry it on your back with a generator and speakers while jogging, than you will have to make due. I also like the fact that I can carry almost my howl music library with me.

I had the opportunity of comparing it to an Ipod, but when I tested the ipod in the store it crackled like hell when playing sounds that were above 10khz. The headphones also felt very cheap and poorly made in my opinion.
One of my acquaintances who teaches electronics in high school always praises vinyl and takes the time to bash the mp3 format and that we "youngsters" don't know jack about true audio quality .
