Default Camper van entertainment

I'm thinking of buying a camper van so I can get away at my leisure. This is also the perfect excuse to invest in some new entertainment equipment. What do you think would be good buys?

Are you looking for battery operated TVs? Miniature sized products? I would probably invest in a decent radio and use a computer for everything else, though that would depend on WiFi availability.

I would think there'd be a lot of things to think about say with the battery capability and signal strength. Maybe a good place to start is some specialist sites or a dealer?

Here in the UK caravaning is very popular.I imagine you are talking about something similar. I know there are many specialist magazines and sites which sell products cut down to size so to speak. Most of the TVs have a terrible problem with reception though.

Some good ideas here, thanks for those. I would like some music, of course, struggling with poor TV reception I could pass on. If you run a regular TV or computer what kind of drain is that on the battery of the camper?

How old is the camper van you are thinking of getting? Many more modern ones will have electrical hook ups so you could use a normal domestic TV in it.

I know people who take this kind of van to a site and then they hook up to the regular electricity supply. If you are parking in another area surely you would have to run it off the engine battery?

I have my eye on a VW conversion. I asked a local dealer and he recommended I buy a leisure battery for the times when mains power is unavailable. I think I need an inverter too.

I would keep it as simple as possible. If you intend to be on the move a lot then a laptop would provide everything you need. The extra battery would be fine for that. If you set up camp somewhere with facilities you may need extra things to connect to the mains.

I agree with JaymeeD.... I have a 1983 Talbot Camper, she cost me £300 and took a fair bit of work to get going. But now, it's great.

I fitted a cheapish stereo with 4 ministry of sound speakers 2 6by9s in the back and 2 6inchers in the front.... You need it!!! When driving the sound from road noise etc etc drowns pretty much everything out! The speakers don't really suit the van, i'm not into the ministry of sound style, but they were the cheapest speakers for the size and work really well. I made sure I bought a stereo with an AUX input. That way i can rig up my laptop and ipod to the stereo. The sound is great when watching a film... way way better than in my house!!
