Default I have a problem

When I bought my car, the factory CD/Radio was installed. For a while they both worked good, then for some unknown reason the CD player started to show an error message and ejecting the CD's. The radio still works fine.

Our local garage, ummed and ahhed, and told me I had to buy a new one. I am sure that it could be something simple.

Anyone got any ideas?

Have you ever used a cleaning disc in it?
Worth a try, though it may not fix the problem.

If it would be due to the reading laser being to dirty it would simply have a problem reading it, it wouldn't display it as an error in my opinion. You could try taking out the reading laser from a used cd-rom, maybe that would work, but I'm not 100% that they're compatible.

They are compatible. However, quite hard to install as far as I know. My friend owns a car shop and uses them quite often but they are fiddly to install and it is often easier to get a new drive.

I would just go and buy a new one to be honest. They aren't too expensive I don't think, my mother had to get a new one for her car as hers was doing the same as the OP's is now.
