The Adcom GFA-555II is a completely upgraded version of the famous GFA-555. While it retains the conservative power-output rating of the original GFA-555, its redesign significantly reduces distortion in the amplifier when driving difficult loudspeaker loads.

FEATURES
- Larger potted transformer provides better overall regulation for driving lower impedances at high power levels; also provides greater peak-current capability into loudspeaker loads.
- No electrolytic capacitors in the low-frequency signal path or feedback-loop path. Only precision non-polarized capacitors are used.
- Addition of a servo circuit minimizes DC-offset voltage at the loudspeaker outputs; this insures that there is no woofer "biasing" with attendant low-frequency distortion.
- Larger heatsinks for each channel for greater heat dissipation and better temperature and dynamic bias tracking. Greater thermal stability is thereby insured.
- More cooling vents on top cover and chassis for greater cooling efficiency and cooler operation into lower impedances.
- High-quality, gold plated brass RCA input jacks with Teflon insulators.
- Thermal overload indicator LED on front panel.

Excellent Amp

by lukas

Pros: built like a tank, inexpensive, all around great amp
Cons: these amps are getting up there in age, so the caps may be due for replacement

Like most people I change my audio equipment out every now and then, and this amp is the one piece that never changes. Like I mentioned above, the older GFA series amps are getting up there in age and most of them are probably due to have their caps replaced in the near future.

For what these amps are going for on Audiogon and ebay, they are an absolute steal. In the manual it says you need the $100 fan upgrade to run the amp bridged, but most people will be fine. To be honest I've never even seen one with the factory fan upgrade.

I've used mine to power Magnepan MG-I's and AV123 Ref2's, the amp performed flawlessly with both.

Highly recommended.
