Poncho's Shenanigans pretty nice, very simple. hope you can take some constructive criticism, my dad installs home theater systems for a living, and i was just wondering why you didnt recess the tv into the wall.. and yes that can be done over most fireplaces seeing how there is usually a 2 foot gap between the actual chimney..

piston Wow, totally forgot about this post. I will have to include some new pictures tonight. The angle from couch to screen is just right.

Never have a fire so I dont worry about it. Although, there is 9" fire block installed in the chimney.

The netflix is great, makes it so easy for the wife to load shows for the kids. Im not a big for of the instant stuff just due to most of the movies being video rips from Starz Play. Other then that everything is great.

How is your heat insulation? Do you plan on using your fireplace a lot? Like jvc said heat and electronics are not the best of friends. You can end up having a few grand worth of paper weights if you screw up something.

If your sofa is up high enough then it shouldn't create too many neck problems. I doubt there would be any problems with a fire in the fireplace. Keep us updated.

What a beauty! Did you get the speakers and start watching? Having Netflix built in is a real bonus. I read the other day that you can also stream it through a zillion other things such as your Wii or X-Box. Isn't technology wonderful!

All that WITH Netflix built in? I'm jealous. It looks like a good home theatre you got there. Good job. And you're right Nigel, the fireplace may be a distraction. But if there's a romantic movie playing, it might just add to it.

Your right JVC. I wonder what it would look like when the TV is on while there is fire under it. I think the flare would surely irritate the viewers.

Nice TV you got there and good luck with your home theater. I wish I could my own as well.

Sounds pretty good so far.
I've heard that some chiropractors are having people come in with neck problems, from watching tvs hung up over fireplaces. I hope you don't have that problem. I also wouldn't build a fire in the fireplace either. Heat and electronics don't seem to mix very well.
Good luck, and enjoy.

Start of My Home Entertainment

So I finally desided that I wanted to get my home theater started. I bought a house about 10 months ago, and this spot above the fireplace has been begging for a nice TV.

Started with a wall bracket from MonoPrice model 3900, features a tilt up to 15 degrees. I already had the bracket, but am considering going to a bracket that does not have the tilt.

I Still need to run wiring for the TV, but for now I have the power cable run all ghetto( not seen here ). The TV is a LG 50PS80 50" plasma THX certified with netflix built in.

I still have a lot to do to finish. I still need speakers and a receiver. The rest of the equipment that will be hooked up will be a LG BD370 Blu-ray, a Toshiba HD-2A doing HD DVD, and a PS3 for gaming, then a Motorola DCH3416 doing my cable/dvr.

Let me know what you think so far.

Jason
