There isn't much to break on a turntable. So what is wrong with it?

I have done some quick looking around and it looks like you can find them around for about $650-700.

I know you love that unit and all, but is there a reason you want to keep with the direct drive vs. a new or slightly used belt drive?

Rega, Linn, Music Hall, and others build some very nice players for the $1000 price range and only get nicer from there.

I am just really not sure how/why you would have to spend $10,000 to start again. The PS-X800 was about $1000 new? With 4.122% (88-08) inflation that is still only $2,243.10. Or from 80 to 08 it is only present valued at $5,298.64.

Sorry I did not make my self clear. The turntables I have heard that sounded as good go for about 10k. Plus it would play LP'S that you could not play on any other turntable do to the biotracer tone arm. Worked great for me. Thanks for your post Joe.

Well my apologies for miss understanding. If I might ask what makes the tone arm so special? What makes it able to play LP that others won't?

Also what are some of the other turntables you have listened to? Could the audible difference be the cartridges?

I'm not sure what the "Biotracer" arm is, but there's a bunch of good linear trackers out there now Clearaudio makes a really nice one, little too spendy for me now, though
