MTX Releases Square Subs, Claims They're Better

MTX announced their new TS55 and TS75 series square subwoofers last week at CES. The "new" square subs feature gloss black metallic cones, four rear support bolts, Spider Plateau Venting and the Asymmetrical Linear Drive System.
MTX claims to have solved the buckling at the corners problem of "other" square subwoofers with their patented (#7,275,620) Santoprene surround design with MTX’s roll technology, "that eliminates surround corner overextension thus increasing linear excursions and overall output." Both models are offered in 10" and 12" sizes as well as dual 2 ohm and dual 4 ohm models. Power handling ranges from 450 to 750 watts continuous depending on the model.

I was planning on ripping MTX a new asshole about the blatant copying of the Kicker subs, but I got word there might be some drama going on behind the scenes that led to this.
I'll hold my tongue for now and give you guys the scoop when I sort everything out.
Thanks to Sean and Juan over at Sound Domain for the info on the MTX subs.

Yeah, and they released the "W7 Killer" not that long ago too. I really don't care for their marketing techniques. The drama behind new technologies like the square design does intrigue me though. Designer/Engineer switch? :P

Wonder if there first attempt at making a square driver will go through the same growing pains the l7's had..

I still don't understand the appeal of these, I think they're both ugly.

output, with a higher cone area you can get more SPL per amount of movement. The square subs i have heard sound like crap, but you can get them pretty damn loud.

^^^ That.
Sound like someone beating a rug with a 2x4. But I never showed up to the SPL meetings anyways...
And they're butt ugly as previously mentioned, they all are.

Hahaha, now that is funny. Never heard a driver's sound described like that.

If they sound bad, I wonder what magic powder Gary Biggs was using when he was champion running one 10" L7 and two 18" SoloX's.
The Kicker squares can obviously sound pretty good.

Sure they can...anyone that says otherwise has no clue what they are talking about.
Square isn't inherently wrong....it's just generally more limited...but that's why you have the square cone in the first place...to have more output with less throw.

I agree with Doodaddy because i own 2 15" L7 kickers and they knock down pictures in my house, I think mtx thunder squares dont compare 2 kickers solo x...
So mtx get ur own design cause' kicker's square design is one of a kind!
