Dayton Audio Ultra II Subwoofer
Filed under: Home Audio > Subwoofers
Dayton Audio’s upcoming Ultra II subwoofer should have heavyweights like SVS and Hsu a bit worried. Designed with the help of Dr. Joe D’Appolito (famous for designing the M-T-M array, his work at Snell, and more recently the Usher Dancer series), the Ultra II houses two of Dayton’s 12” Reference Series subwoofers in a hand crafted internally braced enclosure made from 1” MDF with sidewalls a full 2” thick. A well built enclosure like that isn't lightweight though, and the Ultra II weighs in at 150 pounds with the amplifier and drivers.
More info and pricing after the jump.
The subwoofers are mounted in a vibration canceling bipolar configuration on either side of the sealed enclosure. Power is provided by a modified version of Dayton’s 1000 watt amplifier featuring a proprietary bass optimizing circuit, which uses a microphone to calibrate the subwoofer to the listening space. The only numbers available so far is that this subwoofer system can reach 117dB at 24Hz. The Ultra II subwoofer will be available in high gloss black, Cherry, and Maple finishes, and is expected to launch in June 2008 for just under $2,000.
