The World's Largest Subwoofer Wants to Kill You

It's been a while now since we first wrote about the Danley Sound Labs Matterhorn. The Matterhorn is considered to be the "World's Largest Subwoofer" and was designed for the military who would presumably use it as some sort of weapon. In the video below portions of the Matterhorn build are shown and Tom Danley also mentions other possible applications, such as an avalanche control device or to reproduce the sound signature of tornadoes. I'd like one just to watch Master and Commander a couple times for life like cannon blasts.

Video and more info after the jump.

Taken from our original article on the Matterhorn:

At the request of a military customer, Danley Sound Labs has created an absolute behemoth of bass. Using a steel cargo container they constructed "The Matterhorn" using 40 subwoofers and amplifiers producing 40 kilowatts of power.

I remember this a while back. I really want to play with the tapped horn design.

Seems silly to me. If they wanted TRUE low bass capability, they would have been far better off designing a servo driven sub system. It would require FAR less power and have far more output potential. Will it be musical? Probably not. Would it have massive displacement capability of of relatively little power? Absolutely.

Just throw me in the back and shut the freakin door already!!! Also what's the worlds record for SPL again? I think this will beat it!

Want seems odd to me is that it was requested by the military. Are we using car audio as a weapon now?
