Police Officers Using Subwoofers to Get People Out of Their Way

Washington DC Police have installed a new Rumbler Siren on their cruisers in hopes of giving clueless drivers and pedestrians something to feel in addition to the standard high-pitched siren. Two woofers are used to emit low frequency sound waves and provide the same type of obnoxious vibrating effect that the police give noise violation tickets for. The news video even goes as far as showing the common coin trick used in nearly every Youtube video showing off car audio subwoofers.

Video after the jump.

The Rumbler Sirens cost $350 each and Washington DC plan on outfitting all 767 of their marked patrol cars. Many other Police Departments are currently testing the Rumbler Siren as well.

I could only get the video to load in IE.

In reality i dont know if its going to make a difference at all... it cant be that powerful at $350m it barley moves coins on the hood especially if the point is for it to travel into another car and into that person to notice something is vibrating.

The reporter even said that he could barley feel it and that was with the police car right behind him and his window open.

seems almost as if its just a louder siren with different patterns.

Yeah, that video player they are using sucks. I got it to work in Firefox, but the damn thing crashed IE when I tried to watch it.

Haha, I did it on purpose to show the cop car bumpin. Pretty cheesy I know, but it took me a while to find a picture of the damn thing.
