DNA Studio Speakers

The latest model from Donald North Audio is called the Studio. The Studio's design is quite different from the narrow baffle two and three-ways currently in vogue. The driver complement consists of a horn-loaded textile dome tweeter mounted above two 5.75" Nomex paper cone midranges, and a custom 12" Aurasound woofer powered by an internal 180 watt amplifier, which operates in a dipole configuration. Side-by-side midranges mounted below the tweeter are somewhat common in high-end center channel speakers, as they avoid the off-axis phase issues caused by the typical horizontal D'Appolito array.

DNA claims that this layout also eliminates interference and lobing in the vertical axis caused by two spaced midrange drivers, making it superior to the common vertical D'Appolito array used in many tower speakers. The Studio also features an acoustically isolated chamber for the amplifier and passive crossover and a natural cherry hardwood finish, with custom finishes available. Frequency response is 38Hz - 18kHz, with 93dB/W/m sensitivity, and 4 Ohm impedance. The Studio is priced at $12,000/pr.
