Elemental Designs P7-650 Subwoofer

The Elemental Designs 13Av.2 subwoofer is making a cameo in their newest home theater creation, a pair of subwoofer towers that weigh over 300lbs. The P7-650 enclosures each house a 13Av.2 driver coupled to a LT/1300 amplifier and are capable of some serious displacement when pushed.

The subs stand 48" tall with a square 15" by 15" column. The specs list the tuning at 20Hz and in-room response down to 16Hz, but I'd be willing to bet they can go even lower with authority depending on the room. Price is $2,100 per pair and they are currently available to order on the Elemental Designs website.

I like. It looks like they could survive an explosion.

I wonder why they didn't use sonotubes? I guess they want to be different.

dookie,

We didn't use sonotubes in this instance due to the fact we aren't really set up TO use them. As clients request custom products it's possible to do them but with the port orientation and our production process' this worked out a lot better for us at the moment.

Neptyr,

That's Odye. Just rugged stuff. The first set ordered had it so that's what we used for pictures. It also can be done in a more Matte finish as seen here :

We have a lot more customers going towards the matte finish. Hopefully more pics will continue to come out of that particular finish as we ship more of them.

NG,

Right now P7-650's are made to order. While the ones we have in inventory are already sold they'll go into the production que with the rest of the HT subwoofers. There's no pre-orders

Alex, have you guys ever considered doing sonotube kits? Something like pre-made endcaps and a driver, and let the consumer buy the sonotube and PVC pipe for the port locally? That way the shipping expenses stay low and it takes the hardest part out of making sonotube enclosures.

I think you guys would make a killing on those with the DIY crowd, especially over on AVS.

Hey Lukas.

Thats actually been discussed for some time now.

The biggest thing is the time commitment involved in the website front end. It will need to be something like our ring builder: http://www.edesignaudio.com/ringbuilder_advanced.php

We are not ready to release it yet for a couple other reasons. One being the time involved in programming and cutting the custom rings. We are getting a new CNC machine in the upcoming months, and need to make sure that we have a surplus of wood cut for production runs. If we get behind while the CNC machine is down, we are in a world of hurt with back logs. So until the new CNC machine is up and running, no sonotube end caps. Unless someone makes a specific request.

Really good idea, and I'm glad you brought it up.
