Fake MP3 Trojan Virus Making the Rounds on P2P Networks

McAfee has detected more than than 638,000 computers infected with the Downloader-UA.h trojan virus in the last seven days, with the vast majority of those infections in North America. The Downloader-UA.h trojan virus is spreading like wildfire over the P2P networks where it masks itself as MP3 and MPG files. Upon download and trying to play the file, users are prompted to download a file called PLAY_MP3.exe. The file is a browser controller that will display popup and popunder ads.

Since no one else has said it, I'll start the conspiracy theory here... the RIAA and MPAA are behind it.

Waaaaah. I have zero sympathy, no matter who put the virus out there. Don't steal music.

I wouldent even question it if someone told me it was them. Hell if i owned the copyright to something i would put out bs virus copies out there and flood the networks just to stop people.

But alas i download, no point in denying it. But the only people that are getting this virus are people that dont know how to be safe and or what they are doing. they also are not running virus protection which is an absolute must if you dont know what you are doing and dont totally trust the source.

This virus is not dangerous. If a downloaded mp3 asks you to download an additional file, just ignore it and cut your losses. Way too obvious.

I'm shocked by the fact that most music pirates are still getting their music from Kazaa. How dumb can you be?
