D&M Holdings for Sale

Bloomberg.com is reporting that D&M Holdings Inc, the audio group that owns Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Snell Acoustics, Boston Acoustics, and Escient, is on the sales block. The company, currently estimated to be worth $324 million, is controlled by RHJ International SA and Royal Philips Electronics NV. Both are auctioning their stakes in D&M Holdings to the highest bidder, with the winner expected to buy the company outright. Among the interested parties are private-equity firms Bain Capital LLC and Advantage Partners LLP, audio group Harman International Industries, Merrill Lynch & Co, and "a non- Japanese retailer of electronics goods." It will be interesting to see if this sale forces McIntosh to close its popular Binghamton, NY factory in favor of off-shore production.

Yikes....and Harman isn't great either right now.

If they go to a private equity firm, we might see totally different (or non-existent) companies down the road.

This could either be very bad or very good for some of the listed companies.
