Parts Express DIY Project 3CR-Ti Speakers

The newest DIY project to come from Parts Express is the 3CR-Ti speaker. They look killer and for only $158 in parts they aren't going to break the bank. The full-range speakers each use a single Tang Band W4-1337SA 4" Titanium driver in a Triple-Chamber Reflex (3CR) enclosure. There are a total of five port structures throughout the enclosures, so they are a bit labor intensive. The crossovers appear to be fairly simple and from looking at the frequency response graph you will need a subwoofer for the low-end.

A cool side note to this project is the great looking simulated Rosewood finish. The grain was created using a butane torch, then colored by applying a red paint and quickly removing it. The resulting look is quite impressive.

The full project write-up can be found at Parts Express.

DIY speakers??? Sounds like the IKEA of speakers. Buy a set in bits and pieces and a decent price, take them home with high expectations then spend days figuring how it goes together and getting confused by the instructions. All part of the fun for DIY.

Cool looking speakers. From the picture they look a lot bigger than they actually are.

neptyr- Point taken and I'll start using the larger images so when you click through it will show them.

blotto- I assure you IKEA has nothing like most of the amazing DIY projects you'll see on the net. Cheap crappy furniture FTL.
